Want to create unique visualizations beyond what is currently available on the Canvs platform? Would you like to share exactly what is available in Canvs with other stakeholders or non-Canvs users? This new feature is perfect for you!

Whether you would like to Create brand new, custom visualizations or use one of our available Templates, our Tableau Web Data Connector is now available to use with your Canvs Data.

Canvs’ Tableau Data Connector allows users to seamlessly analyze their Canvs MRX data in their Tableau accounts. The data connector simply prompts you to choose which dataset's data you’d like to ingest into Tableau, and with a few clicks, your data will be available in Tableau. Once ingested, you can recreate Canvs’ in-app visualization experience, or create brand new visualizations directly in Tableau.

Note:

  • Currently, this feature is available for Canvs MRX data.

  • Please make sure to use the Tableau Desktop version. These options are not available on the browser.

  • Templates are now available!

Create a Brand New Custom Visualization

Please note, this option is to create custom visualizations without a premade Canvs template. This gives the flexibility for power users to design their own, unique custom visualizations. If you would like to use a premade template, please read the section at the bottom of the article.

Setup Process:

  • To start, please click on the Web Data Connector option in Tableau.

  • Next, copy + paste the link for the Web Data Connector and paste it at the top of the window.

  • The next step is to copy + paste your API Token in the API Token field and click on Submit Token.

* If you require your API Token, please contact your Canvs Account Manager.

  • After the information above is submitted, you will see an option to search for and select your Canvs dataset.

The dropdown will show details such as the Dataset Name, Uploader, and Date Uploaded to make your search easier.

  • Once you select your Canvs dataset, you will be able to see various details about the dataset. Once you confirm this is the data you want to analyze, click on "Get Survey Data!"

  • After the Canvs MRX data is loaded in, please click on "Sheet 1". You are almost ready to begin your analysis!

  • For initial setup and as a starting point, we recommend putting "Topic" in the Columns field and "Verbatim ID" in the Rows field. Please recalculate the Verbatim ID using "CNTD", which stands for Count Distinct.

Congrats! You are now all set up to create your custom visualizations with your Canvs MRX! Feel free to use the many variables and filter options that we have available to customize to your liking.
