The Connected Reddit Source enables automated, recurring imports of comments from specific Reddit posts (threads), eliminating the need for manual uploads. Users can configure post links, set frequency, and customize analysis options. Canvs will collect and process the data automatically according to the selected schedule.
🔗 How to Use the Reddit Integration
Step 1: Add Reddit Post Links
In the Dataset Management dashboard, select Import Data in the upper-right corner.
Click the Reddit source platform to begin setup.
Paste up to 10 Reddit post URLs into the input box.
Remove any unwanted links before continuing.
Click Next to proceed.
✅ Tip: Only Reddit post (thread) URLs are supported. Comments-only links, user profile links, or subreddit URLs are not valid.
Step 2: Define Import Date Range
Specify the date range for collecting Reddit comments:
Start Date: Automatically pre-filled based on the publishing date of the oldest post.
End Date: Choose between “Indefinitely” or a custom end date.
Step 3: Select AI Analysis Frequency
Choose how often Canvs AI should re-analyze Reddit data:
Daily: Analyzed every day by 8:00 AM ET.
Weekly: Choose a day (e.g., Monday) for weekly updates.
Monthly: Analysis runs at the end of each month.
Step 4: Add AI Story Assist™ Custom Questions
Define up to three questions for Canvs to answer upon import. These questions are analyzed automatically with every batch of data.
Include Canvs AI Overviews: Select this option to generate an AI-generated summary of key findings amongst all comments.
Step 5: Assign Email Recipients
Designate who should receive the analysis results. Choose up to four additional team members to receive email notifications (five total users).
Step 6: Customize AI Analysis Settings
Configure optional preferences to tailor the analysis:
General Instructions: Users can describe, at a high level, what an ideal summary should look like for their unique business needs. Canvs will use these instructions as a guide.
Preferred Nets: Users can define up to 5 Preferred Nets to represent specific categories in the AI-powered summary. Canvs will organize the AI-powered Codes into these Preferred Nets and will generate additional Nets as needed.
Step 7: Name and Tag the Dataset
Provide essential metadata for your Reddit dataset:
Name: Update the project name.
Provide Context (Optional): Add a description of the project and research goals to help Canvs better understand the research objective.
Industry: Select the appropriate industry from the dropdown.
Type: The project type is automatically set to Social Comments and cannot be changed.
Apply Rules (Optional): Apply a custom code frame to categorize incoming data automatically in the Summary.
Add Tags (Optional): Add tags to better organize projects within the Dataset Management dashboard. Add multiple by separating with a comma.
Enable Translation (Optional): Translate all collected comments into English via Google Translate, if needed. This feature is available only to users subscribed to Canvs Translation; it will not appear in the platform for users without this subscription
Step 8: Final Review and Import
Review all your settings:
Click Add Reddit Data to initiate import.
Once added, the import will appear in the Scheduled tab of the Dataset Management dashboard. If historical data is selected for import, processing begins shortly after setup and is *imported as a single wave. Future data will be imported based on the selected frequency.
🔁 You can track and pause/resume this Reddit dataset like any other connected dataset in Canvs.

👀 FAQ
Are comments on both reddit threads and subreddit threads included in the tracker?
All Reddit posts are technically "threads" within subreddits. So yes, comments on Reddit posts (threads) within subreddits would be included in the tracker. The tracker collects both the original post content and all comments within that thread.
Can any thread links be pasted into the tracker?
The feature is designed for specific post URLs (threads), not entire subreddit URLs. Platform will track one specific post and its comments over time.
"For example, you can track a specific post like 'Why are some sunscreens so cheap?' but not the entire r/skincareaddiction subreddit."
"Can add up to 10 links" - is that 10 at a time, or 10 per account?
It's 10 threads per single dataset, not per account. Users can create unlimited trackers/datasets, each containing up to 10 threads.
